Homelessness may be all around you, but it’s not always something you’re forced to directly confront.
The Russian duo Vlad and Daniel, better known as NormelTV
, filmed a hidden camera social experiment in a McDonald’s in Sweden, with one man posing as a customer and the other as a homeless man.
When the customer leaves his table for the restroom, he asks fellow diners to watch his food.
Then the second man, dressed as a homeless person, moves to steal it.
Although he tells the other diners he’s starving, very few offer to buy him food, and some resort to anger in order to keep him away.
A caveat, as with all experimental videos, is that there’s no way to know how much the footage has been edited.
But in the midst of the holiday season, we can do worse than consider how we treat those who’re suffering.
